Beyond the Beat: The Power of Rhythm and Community
The Power of Rhythm & Community Rhythm is our earliest shared language. Long before written words, communities gathered around the drum to communicate, mark milestones, and synchronize their collective energy. In our modern lives, we rarely experience the simple, grounded power of creating music together without performance pressure. This four-hour gathering provides dedicated time to step away from the daily rush, reset your nervous system, and experience the natural unity that forms when diverse beats lock into one cohesive group voice.
What to Expect
4 Core Rhythm Patterns: Step-by-step guidance through four practical, versatile patterns designed to expand your hand-drumming vocabulary and build muscle memory naturally.
Technique Without the Jargon: Clear instruction on posture, strike dynamics (bass, tone, slap), and ergonomic playing to protect your hands and play comfortably for hours.
Interactive Community Games: Playful, cooperative group rhythm activities and call-and-response games that sharpen active listening, spark laughter, and weave individual players into an ensemble.
Creative Self-Care & Pacing: Mindful breath breaks, gentle stretches, and grounding pauses woven between playing segments to keep your energy relaxed, open, and renewed.
Instruments Provided: A complete selection of hand drums and auxiliary percussion will be ready for you, though you are always welcome to bring your own favorite drum.
Who This Is For This workshop welcomes participants ages 15 and up who want to expand their rhythm skills in an encouraging, non-judgmental environment:
